***********
One of my last nights in the motorhome.
I sold it over 2 1/2 years ago
We were allowed to spend the night on a small farm in Switzerland.
After almost forty years, the mobile home sold.
After more than 300,000 km across Europe, this step was not easy for me.
Apart from Finland and Poland, I have traveled to all European countries.
I almost always drove alone, for the last twenty years with my wife.
My trips were almost never planned in advance, not knowing in the morning where you would arrive in the evening had a special charm.
Because I was almost always on my own, I always took hitchhikers with me.
Whether a young couple in Switzerland who actually only wanted to go to the next village.
We then drove through France for 4 days.
The old man in Turkey who, far from any town, was waiting for the bus with the goat in his arms.
The woman with two small children, the car broke down, nothing worked.
The boy who missed the school bus and later introduced me to the whole village community.
Just a few stories.
They did not give a thumbs-up that they wanted to be taken with them.
I offered them to take them with me.
They were wonderful encounters with great conversations, somehow we always managed to overcome language barriers.
Just one example, the old man invited me for tea in the next village.
We "talked" with hands and feet
Suddenly he called a little boy on the bike to him, blah, blah, blah.
I wanted to go on, the man signaled to me that I should wait.
A short time later a man came with the moped.
He worked in Germany and through him a conversation was possible.
He later invited me to his family.
It was a wonderful day for me.
Home again,
I was often asked
have you seen the museum in ........,
have you been to the cathedral of ...
how did you like the park in ...
the tulip blossom in .........
Then I always asked if they wanted to know what I had experienced.
Actually they wanted to tell me what they saw.
I've seen a lot too, but the most important thing was the human encounters.
I still live in the memories today.
I can buy a postcard from the Eiffel Tower, I always have the little stories in me.
It's always nice to rummage around in the "memory box".
